About Utah Breastfeeding Coalition
The Utah Breastfeeding Coalition is Utah’s Breastfeeding
taskforce. The Coalition encourages participation and involvement by all interested
individuals and organizations.
Mission: To collaboratively support, protect, promote, and celebrate breastfeeding in the State of Utah.
Goals:
- Encourage mothers to initiate and continue breastfeeding.
- Increase public understanding that breastfeeding is the normal course for nourishing children and that efforts to undermine breastfeeding are serious threats to the health of children and women.
- Contribute to a supportive and accepting social environment with respect to breastfeeding.
- Model policies and practices that promote and support breastfeeding in all sectors of the health care system.
- Support the establishment of model policies in work sites and child care facilities that foster a positive environment for breastfeeding.
- Encourage active support for breastfeeding among key community leaders.
- Encourage key agency leaders and others who influence these individuals or groups to take action and develop concrete policies in support of breastfeeding.
The health of our Nation is one of our most important resources. Breastfeeding,
a relatively basic, simple, and cost-effective measure, can have a significant
impact on establishing the foundation for a lifetime of optimal health and
can result in reduced health care spending.
In order to optimize the health and well being of Utah's infants the members
of the Utah Breastfeeding Coalition are committed to supporting policies, which will promote and support
breastfeeding.
