The Breastfeeding Cafe 2008

The Breastfeeding Café is a community outreach program sponsored by the Utah Breastfeeding Coalition (UBC).  This outreach has several objectives:

1. Show that breastfeeding is normal
2. Inspire thought and conversation about breastfeeding
3. Encourage relationships among breastfeeding advocates

• The Utah Breastfeeding Coalition’s mission is to collaboratively support, protect, promote, and celebrate breastfeeding in the State of Utah.
• The Café was the brain child of Susan Johnson.  A Breastfeeding Coalition member, local La Leche League Leader and IBCLC certified lactation consultant, Susan envisioned an annual event to help “grow” breastfeeding in our community. 
• The name “The Breastfeeding Cafe” came from Susan Johnson, who wished for a Cafe or similiar type place for breastfeeding women when she was nursing her daughter over a decade ago. This is the third annual event for the Utah Breastfeeding Coalition, made possible by the initial success of The Breastfeeding Café in 2006 due largely in part to our phenomenal volunteers!

A Chorus of Nursing Minds

I draw you to me and shut out the cold

Let us hold this feeling through time

I know through nursing you are mine

Morning light has slipped and stolen.

 

Nursing at my breast, we are whole

Together we entwine

Our life is complete; my soul is full

Let us hold this feeling through time.

 

Nursing at my breast, we feel whole

Touch connects us; we act of one mind

With my breast, I console

A sigh, as you relax and unfold

Let us hold this feeling through time.
